You may be one of those sincere Christians who sometimes feels pushed aside by the church. Maybe you think it's because of your sexuality or gender expression; perhaps you just feel like you don't fit in the perceived "norm" of a church member. It could be because of hurtful experiences you've had in the past with a church; that you got the distinct impression the church simply didn't want you around.
We believe God welcomes you, just as you are. There is a place at Christ's table for you!
You may not see yourself as "marginalized" at all; just a Christian seeking pastoral care for some particular issue you are dealing with or seeking to deepen your own walk in faith. Perhaps you have suffered a loss, like a loved one or significant relationship; maybe you are having difficulties in relating to your significant other or children or parents. It could be you are having difficulties knowing the presence of God in your daily life.
God welcomes you, just as you are, and meets you in your difficulties. There is a place at Christ's table for you!
SACRED JOURNEYS is a shared ministry of Christ the King Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Revd. David R. Gillespie, an ordained minster and member of Christ the King, seeking to demonstrate in tangible ways the love and compassion of Jesus Christ for all people, especially those who have been historically marginalized by church and/or society. We do this by offering Affirming Spiritual (Pastoral) Care and Affirming Spiritual Direction.
WHAT IS SPIRITUAL CARE?

SPIRITUAL CARE, sometimes called Pastoral Care, is one way in which we at Christ the King seek to help you find wholeness in your life. It is most often done in the context of a crisis or problem you are facing. Maybe you have suffered a loss of some kind, like a family member or loved one or job or your health. Perhaps you are struggling with a particular issue in your own life which seems to be coming between you and God. It could be you are experiencing relational problems. Sometimes it's not a problem so much as it is a "life transition." Like a couple exploring the possibility of formalizing their relationship through a wedding or holy union ceremony.
Spiritual Care, in that sense, is limited in duration. We meet together until you feel there has been some resolution to the problem or issue you are dealing with.
Appropriate referrals to other, more specific, professional caregivers will be made when necessary.

The Spiritual Direction relationship is an on-going one; it lasts as long as you or I think it is beneficial.

Do Our Services Cost?

Maintaining this ministry, however, does cost and so we have published our standard rates in our brochure (click on the link below). If you are unable to pay the full amount, we will work with you on a sliding scale. If you simply cannot afford to pay anything, we'll work with you also. We simply ask that you be honest with us about your situation and ask you to pay what you can if you can.
